I don’t often pay attention to symbols of prestige, but since we’ve been married 38 years, this one caught my attention. A survey funded by Fortune 500 companies reported that long-lasting marriages had become the new status symbol. What does it take to have a long-lasting marriage?

God’s Desire

God created the first marriage when He formed a woman and presented her to Adam as his helpmate. God planned for marital unions to remain a lifelong commitment and not be broken until one of the couple died. Genesis 2:18 NLT

Stick Like Glue

Try an experiment. Glue two pieces of paper together. Once they completely dry, attempt to pull them apart. I think you’ll find bits of one piece of paper stuck to the other piece. The two connected in a way which didn’t separate without tearing both pieces.

Stuff will happen; it does for every couple. Stick it out and work it out. Create your own unbreakable bond. Relationships take forgiveness, sacrifice, and work.

If in Danger –Seek Help

Normal problems in marriage DO NOT include any actions which are illegal, immoral, or physically or sexually abusive. If you or your children are in physical danger, seek shelter immediately.

True love is not a feeling by which we are overwhelmed. It is a committed thoughtful decision. ~ M. Scott Peck
