After we’ve decluttered our closets of clothes that don’t fit, haven’t worn, and don’t like, it’s time to Shop Our Closets. We save time and money for other pursuits when we shop from our closets.
What Does It Mean to Shop Our Closets?
We take what we have left and try putting different outfits together. For example, we create a new ensemble when we add a different top, bottom, or accessory to an item.
Try a pair of pants with a sweater you don’t usually wear, then add a scarf and boots. Experiment with different combinations of clothes. Play with accessories such as a belt, scarf, and shoes to create a new look. Or add a favorite piece of jewelry to an outfit and find joy in what you already have.
Don’t Punish Yourself
It’s time to stop punishing ourselves for things we bought but don’t wear very much. Most of us own a few pieces we don’t often use for one reason or another. We may get tired of wearing the same outfits or want something new.
There’s no need to punish ourselves or buy something new immediately. Instead, we can use the creative ability God placed in us to form several new outfits.
Challenge – Create three new combinations
Find two new ways to wear something you like but haven’t worn in a long time and wear them this month.
Backward Hangers
If you haven’t already done it, move the tops and bottoms you didn’t wear in the last six months but couldn’t part with to the back of the closet. Turn the hangers backward. When you wear them, turn the hangers around to the front again.
How does it feel to know God watches over you even as you organize your clothes and build your wardrobe?
He will give a crown of beauty for ashes, a joyous blessing instead of mourning, festive praise instead of despair.
