When God asks us to volunteer, lead, or take on some responsibility, we often feel excited and privileged. Exploring the ins and outs of the task He gave us is a new adventure.
Then, we get the temptation to quit.
In the middle of the task, it got complicated. The job required more of us than we thought we could give, or it involved skills we didn’t have. We adjusted our lives to deal with our inadequacies and learned new skills.
Maybe others didn’t step up to help as we expected. When we knew what was involved, we realized it was hard work and not fun anymore. We didn’t like parts of it or didn’t do as well as we thought we would in certain areas.
Been there and done that!
My dreams came true when I was European President of the Protestant Women of the Chapel (PWOC), started my own business, and joined my husband in ministry.
Without a doubt, I knew God called me to do each of these missions. Yet I ran into moments, hours, and sometimes even days where I wanted to quit. It seemed too hard, and I lacked the skills to do the job.
Be steadfast, and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless. ~ 1 Corinthians 15:58
After many tears and much-interrupted sleep, God pulled me back to Himself.
God wants to develop us into mature Christians. He gives us challenging tasks, forcing us to rely on Him to complete them.
Be sure to carry out the ministry the Lord gave you. ~ Colossians 4:17
God will show us how to finish our tasks step by step.
- Don’t quit.
- Go the distance.
- When you accept an assignment, finish it.
- Resist the temptation to quit.
- Turn to God for guidance with a willingness to obey. He gives.
- God will equip you with the skills you need for His assignments.
Just say a simple “Yes, I will” or “No, I won’t.” Anything beyond this is from the evil one. ~ Matthew 5:37
