The story of how I met my husband, Aaron, is not a pretty one. I was a broken and depressed woman coming out of an abusive marriage. However, God had a plan for me. He led me to Aaron, and a year after we got married, we both turned our lives over to Him when we accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior.

He Picked Me

Before the rehearsal for Choral Society’s evening rehearsal, one of the tenors behind me challenged another to get my attention. He took the dare and pulled my hair. The tactic worked, as I turned to look at him. After that, I didn’t see him again for several weeks.

A few weeks before our performance, the group gathered in the school gym to learn the dance steps and movements to accompany the music we had practiced.

When I glanced across the room, I was surprised to see the guy who pulled my hair talking with the choreographer. My heart skipped a beat. I thought he had left the area.

The choreographer turned towards the bleachers where I sat with two other girls. The guy pointed at me. He had chosen me to be his dance partner for the show. The unexpected happened: we fell in love while dancing and singing love songs for the spring show.

Do you want a marriage filled with joy that lasts through the years?

Commitment is the Key

One night as my dance partner and I sat in my car by the flight line, he shared his desire for a committed relationship. My heart raced, and I found it hard to breathe.

A committed relationship was exactly what I wanted and never experienced in my first marriage! I had found my dream man and instantly knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with him.

Stick Like Glue and Work It Out

This experiment helps us understand the true nature of commitment.

  1. Glue two pieces of paper together.
  2. Once the glue is completely dry, try to pull the papers apart. You will notice fragments of one sheet stuck to the other.
  3. The two pieces of paper are now connected; they cannot be separated without tearing and leaving bits of one paper on the other.

Challenges arise in every relationship. By sticking it out and working through these issues, you can create an unbreakable bond. Remember, relationships require forgiveness, sacrifice, and effort.

3 Ways to Make Your Marriage Last

To maintain a strong and lasting marriage, we need to be intentional in our actions. Here are three key ways to help keep your relationship thriving.

  1. Commit to Stick It Out. It is essential to work through the challenges together. Couples in strong marriages figure out how to compromise and combine their efforts to ensure their relationship endures.
  2. Keep Your Promises. Strive to be women and men who keep their word. While marriage may not always be easy, facing challenges together can strengthen your bond as we seek solutions that work for both partners.
  3. Trust in God. Place your marriage and lives in the hands of our Almighty and Loving God. He made us, knows our needs, and teaches us how to love each other as He loves us.
