It’s hard to get rid of clothes if we have emotions or special memories tied to them. Before we declutter our closets, let’s ask God to help us release the emotions we connected to our clothes.

If it’s an item you treasure, create a memory box to keep a few special memories. Or take a picture of the item and title it with when you wore it. Then remember, there may be someone praying for just that piece, and your donation or consignment will answer their prayer.

Maybe you:

Still have the outfit you wore when you got your first kiss or the gown you wore to the high school prom.

Release them to God.

Have outfits with the tags still on them or clothes you bought and never wore.

Release them to God.

Spent a lot of money on a work wardrobe and found it hard to give away the clothes you no longer use.

Release them to God.

Got clothes from your mother or sister lurking in the back of your closet because you don’t like them, but you fear hurting your mother or sister’s feelings if you get rid of them.

Release them to God.

Think I’ll get back into those pre-baby clothes when I lose the next twenty pounds or whatever amount you want to lose.

Release them to God.

Prayer of Release

God,

Help me release the emotions I’ve tied to my clothes. I want to celebrate Your goodness and love for me just as I am. Help me love myself today and dress to glorify You.

Amen

Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!

Your workmanship is marvelous−how well I know it.
