5 Tips for When He Doesn’t Meet Your Needs

Have you been disappointed or angry because your husband didn’t meet your needs?

I woke up angry and upset. Jealousy coursed through my veins.

My husband bought several expensive items and planned to hike six days on the Appalachian Trail with our son. Poor me; I didn’t have a fun vacation on the horizon, and I hadn’t bought myself a pricey piece of equipment.

I thought about God’s instructions to not complain. Did I believe truths or lies? Was life supposed to be tit for tat? If my husband bought something, was I supposed to get something new too?

What Do You Want

God asked, “What do you need, Joyce?” Notice, He asked about my needs, and I looked at my wants. I seldom stopped to consider what I wanted or needed.

When we see the trips, gadgets, or promotions of our friends, we get sidetracked. We believe we’re less fortunate because we can’t, don’t, or won’t purchase what we want.

Find What Brings You Pleasure and Purpose

Do you know what puts a smile on your face? My Happy List didn’t contain anything that cost a lot, but I knew they’d bring me joy or a moment of happiness.

I wanted a library card and to spend an afternoon curled in a chair with a novel. I made an appointment for a pedicure and drove through a nearby town to look at the stores.

He Doesn’t Meet Your Needs

Don’t wait for your husband to make you happy. Let God help you see the truth in your situation. You husband can’t meet all your needs. Only God can so that!

But you’ve got the power to put a smile on your face.
